Case no. 1 - Acute (Fresh Injury) healed by dressings alone-without surgery
When the damage following initial injury is not too deep, acceptable healing (without scar problems) can be achieved by simple dressings - so long as infection is avoided.
Case no. 2 - PBC (Post Burn Contracture) Neck
Deep Burn injury to neck, when allowed to heal without skin grafting, causes a thick scar that causes a neck deformity - this interferes in neck movements and thus daily life activity. Surgery involves correcting the deformity and skin grafting, supplemented by splints and physiotherapy.
Case no. 3 - PBC (Post Burn Contracture) Axilla- Shoulder- release and Local flap
This is due to deep burn injury to the Axilla (Underarm) area that is allowed to heal without surgery, leading to a thick scar causing a shoulder deformity.
Unlike the neck region, flap surgery is essential after correcting the Axilla deformity to prevent relapse of the problem. If skin grafts alone are used, early relapse is commonly seen even with a good surgical correction and strict use of splints-physiotherapy.
